José F. Mata, LMFT (He/Him) is an investigator on multiple psychedelic research trials exploring the therapeutic benefits of MDMA and psilocybin. José receives payments from MAPS Public Benefit Corporation (MAPS PBC) as an investigator to work on clinical trials and contracts with MAPS PBC to perform education and consultation services. Additionally, José receives payments from the US Department of Veteran Affairs and COMPASS Pathways to support clinical trials as a research scientist and lead therapist respectively. In addition to supporting psychedelic clinical trials in varying capacities, José is a NARM, IFS, and somatic experiencing practitioner in private practice at The Held Space. José co-creates and shares space nurtured through the fabrics of somatics, and multiplicity, as well as developmental, humanistic, and transpersonal psychology. His professional trajectory has included working at the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Mental Health Department, the outpatient Psychiatry Department at Kaiser Permanente, and teaching within Boston University’s Graduate School of Social Work. José’s commitment to participating in healing spaces stems from the knowledge that the best way to learn is by engaging in our own healing work.
